Preamble	Removals have marred the perfectly regular grid this puzzle had originally. Every clue contains a misprint in the definition; the correct letters in clue order (an abridged quotation) explain who were responsible. After entering all the answer letters, solvers must restore the original grid by filling the gaps and showing the regular bar pattern (no clued answer being shortened in the process); numbers need not be included. The thematic location (12 letters) must be highlighted. Clues are in the normal order. Chambers Dictionary (2003) is the primary reference.
Solution Notes (Hide Solution)	The correct letters of misprints spelt out "The borrowers of books … spoilers of the symmetry" from a quotation by Charles Lamb. Every empty cell in the grid could be filled with a B (abbreviation for book) restoring the original symmetrical grid. The thematic location is "Lamb's library". The title can be interpreted as "mend Elian".
