The puzzle was based on the saying "There is divinity in odd numbers", quoted by Sir John Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor. A single letter had to be inserted into odd-numbered clues. The inserted letters spell "there is divinity". The title is "god" in a rearrangement of "numbers".
